We're recruiting - Ranger

We are looking for a hard-working, motivated and passionate person to join our growing land management team as a countryside ranger. The post-holder will be part of our team that undertakes a diversity of land management activities across a variety of sites and habitats in Jersey.

You will mainly be involved in habitat maintenance and creation in woodlands, heathlands, grasslands and wetlands, footpath creation / maintenance, infrastructure creation (fencing, steps etc.), field surveys and also support / help out with our ecological surveying.

You will be required to work mainly in a team, but also occasionally alone. The successful candidate will be practical, strong and hard-working, and able to problem solve / have a flexible / calculated approach as to how to approach different jobs. Often you will be working to tight deadlines and on a number of different jobs, so punctuality and good organisational skills / record keeping are essential.

 

Key responsibilities will include

  • Habitat restoration and maintenance of woodlands, wetlands, grasslands and heathlands.
  • Habitat creation including wildlife ponds, wildflower meadows, tree planting etc.
  • Tool / machine maintenance
  • Support and possibly help out with our ecological survey team
  • Ensure that the professional image of the company is upheld at all times

 

Key attributes and experience

Ability to work hard outdoors, in all weather year-round is paramount. Able to work in a team, often working to tight deadlines. Practical, hands-on and able to problem solve.

Experience in land management necessary, as well as experience with using strimmers / brushcutters / chainsaws etc.

We are looking for someone who will fit in with our outgoing, fun, hard-working team who is passionate about working in and developing conservation in the Island.

 

Ideally you will have

  • Demonstrable experience in land management
  • Knowledge of how / when to undertake sensitive restoration and maintenance management of a variety of local habitats
  • A hard-working and flexible attitude
  • Desire to work outdoors in all weather, year-round
  • Ability to work well as part of a close team
  • A passion and keen interest for conservation / ecology
  • Be practical and hands-on, including woodwork
  • Have experience in tool / machinery repairs and maintenance
  • Ability to work in a highly physical job
  • Good organisational and communication skills
  • Good local plant / animal ID & knowledge desired – but training will be provided
  • A full driving Licence
  • Local residency
